About this episode
Psalm 83 is one of the imprecatory psalms, a prayer asking God to defend His people against those seeking to harm them. The psalmist cries out for God to intervene, protect, and defeat the enemies of Israel. But the most important part of the psalm comes in the final verse: "That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth." The ultimate goal was never simply comfort, safety, or victory for Israel, it was that God would receive honor and glory. The same should be true in our lives. We naturally pray for deliverance, provision, and protection, and God invites us to bring those needs before Him. But above all else, our desire should be that the way we live and the way God works in our lives would point others back to Him. Whether in victory or hardship, let your life reflect the greatness of God so that He receives the glory He deserves.
